Pedro Baptista

Pedro Lopes Baptista started his guitar studies with Régine Campagnac at the Sintra Conservatory of Music, where he completed the 5th grade. He was admitted to the Artistic School of Music of the National Conservatory, studying with Júlio Guerreiro and completing the 8th grade.
Pedro completed a Degree in Guitar at the University of Évora under the guidance of Dejan Ivanović. Also at this university, he finished his Degree in Composition with Christopher Bochmann and Pedro Amaral. He completed his Masters in Music Teaching at the University of Aveiro, studying with Pedro Rodrigues and Paulo Vaz de Carvalho. Pedro also did an internship at the Bairrada School of Arts with Tiago Matias.
He attended Guitar Master Classes with Dejan Ivanović, Michalis Kontaxakis, Júlio Guerreiro, Pedro Rodrigues, José Mesquita Lopes, Sanel Redžić, Andrea De Vitis, Gaëlle Solal and Roland Dyens, recording solo for Antena2. Pedro has also attended Master Classes in composition with Diana Pérez and Luis Naón and in conducting with Artur Cardoso, Tiago Alves, Alberto Roque and Matthew George.
As a guitarist, highlights include the opening concert of the “Days of Music in Belém” with the Orquestra Sinfónica Metropolitana de Lisboa and live broadcast on RTP2, discographic recording (Scomegna Edizioni Musicali) and solo concert with the Portuguese Navy Band. Pedro has performed at national and international festivals and tours, including in the USA (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Washington State).
As a composer, highlights include the premiere of his work “Abstração” by the Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil de Lisboa, broadcasted by Antena2, the Prize for Best Portuguese Work at the 2nd Portugal International Guitar Composition Competition, 1st Prize in Jean Sibelius Festival International Composition Competition (Finland) and 2nd Prize in Premio Internazionale di Composizione Città di Barletta (Italy).
He taught the disciplines of Guitar and Guitar Orchestra at Dr. Manuel Fernandes School, in Abrantes, and currently teaches guitar at the Montijo Regional Arts Conservatory and at the National Conservatory’s Artistic School of Music.
Pedro is attending a PhD in Music (Performance – Guitar) at the University of Aveiro, under the guidance of Pedro Rodrigues and Evgueni Zoudilkine.
