Francisco Ribeiro

Of Portuguese nationality, the per-cussionist and composer Francisco Ribeiro started his musical studies in 2011 at the Ensin’arte – Escola de Música da Sociedade Filarmónica de Crestuma.
Francisco completed his Bachelor’s degree in Composition at the University of Aveiro and studied with Evgueni Zoudilkine, Isabel Soveral, Sara Carvalho and Henrique Portovedro. He is currently studying a Master’s degree in Music Education, spe-cialized in Ensemble Music (Wind Orchestra), under the guidance of Prof. André Granjo.
As a percussionist, Francisco was awarded in the Soloist Competition of the Escola Profissional de Música de Espinho, performing with the Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, under Pedro Neves. As a composer and conductor, he participated in the “Quem é Calouste” Competition, obtaining the 1st Prize in the category for Young Students.
Francisco won the 2nd Prize of the VIII Edition of the Viana do Castelo Composition Award with the work “Variações Espanholas” for marimba. Since 2017, he frequently collaborates with the Ensin’arte as a percussion teacher.
In 2021, his piece “Esconder é sofrer” was awarded at the Composition Competition for Wind Orchestra promoted by Fundação INATEL and Banda Sinfónica do Exército. He is the co-founder of the Nota do Meio Quartet, specialized in the interpretation of modern music for two pianos and two percussionists.
In 2023, his piece “Through my Glassy Veil”, for Narrator and Wind Orchestra, won the 1st Prize and the Audience Award at the XI National Composition Competition of the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, in collaboration with the “O Bando” Theater Company.
