Carlos Guedes

Carlos Guedes is a Portuguese composer, media artist, and researcher, with a multifaceted activity whose work comprises music for ballet, theater, film and interactive installations, aside from traditional concert music. His music has been heard in the US and Europe, in places like The Kitchen, ArCo, De Waag, SXSW, Teatro Nacional de S. João, Casa da Música, Expo ’98, Porto 2001, and Guimarães 2012, many times in collaborative efforts with other artists.
Carlos Guedes is Associate Music Professor at New York University Abu Dhabi, where he is the Head of Music Program for Arts and Humanities. He had responsibilities in the creation and improvement of several academic programs in music composition and multimedia in Portugal, including the Composition program at ESMAE (1st and 2nd cycles), the 1st cycle in Electronic and Musical Production at ESART (Castelo Branco) and the Doctoral Program in Digital Media at the University Porto.
As a researcher, his interests are on automatic music generation and interactive music systems. He co-founded the Sound and Music Computing group at INESC TEC.
