Iara Lamego

Iara Fernandes Lamego was born in Braga – Portugal, in January 2008. She began her musical journey at the age of five, studying piano with César Carvalho. In 2018, at the age of ten, she enrolled in the Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga (EACMCGB) to study viola with Ângela Teles, continuing this tuition until the 9th Grade. During Secondary School, she entered the Composition studies, studying under Paulo Bastos.
Throughout her education, Iara has participated in numerous masterclasses and artistic projects, including the following Workshops: Construção de Instrumentos Eletrónicos (João Carlos Pinto, 2024), Do Patch ao Palco – Introdução ao MAX/MSP (Jorge Ramos, 2025), and the Workshop of Improvisação ICHI (Ana Teresa Pereira and José Nuno Miranda, 2025).
In 2022 and 2023, she was a member of the Projeto Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil, performing under the conducting of Diogo Costa (2022) and Rita Castro Blanco (2023). She also gained experience in musical theatre, contributing to the productions Kings and Queens (2023), A Ciranda (2024), and Gatos Poetas (2025). Iara has also attended courses at EMMozart/Yamaha Music School Braga, including a DJ course taught by Francisco Magalhães and a Music Production Techniques course in Ableton Live with the artist Cálculo (Hugo Martins).
Her artistic development has included collaborations and encounters with several composers, such as João Carlos Pinto, Jorge Ramos, Francisco Fontes, Pedro Lima, Carlos Brito Dias, Osvaldo Fernandes, Nuno Côrte-Real, Kara-Lis Coverdale, Robert Lowe and Ava Rasti.
In 2023, she joined the Afghan Youth Orchestra, conducted by Tiago Moreira da Silva, having performed at Casa da Música (Porto) and Theatro Circo (Braga). During the orchestra’s 2025 international tour, she performed in distinguished venues such as Spazio Teatro No’hma
Teresa Pomodoro (Milan), the historic Konzerthaus Berlin, as part of the Young Euro Classic festival, and Creative School Chrysalis (Toronto).
Her work Kinda L1ke This received the Chamber Music Prize at the 2025 Concurso Nacional de Composição, held in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Composition Program at the EACMCGB. Written for alto saxophone, bass clarinet, cello and piano, this piece marked her first national recognition as a young composer. She is currently completing her 12th grade at the EACMCGB and intends to continue her academic studies in Composition after finishing Secondary School.
