Santos holds a Master degree in Composition (Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Netherlands) and a Bachelor degree in Composition (School of Music and Performing Arts, Polytechnic of Porto, Portugal). His professional activity encompasses both music pedagogy and composition. Among his compositions, notable works include the chamber opera “Edifício Paz”, with a libretto by Jorge Luís Castro and produced by Aurum et Purpura – Artistic Creation Center (Teatro Diogo Bernardes, 2025); the duo “Impressões bucólicas” for violin and cello (Além Mar Festival, 2024); the choral piece “Pater noster” for two choirs and instrumental septet (Holy Week of Esposende, 2022); the piece “Sketch Fragment” for string quartet (Harmos Festival, 2017); the instrumental sextet “O Sonho do Arlequim” (Cistermúsica, 2010); and “Tríptico (Água-Granito-Festa)” for youth symphony orchestra (Academy of Music of Viana do Castelo and Teatro Sá de Miranda, 2009). He arranged several traditional Portuguese songs, most notably “Versos e Canto da Verónica” for female choir and instrumental ensemble (project “No Monte das Oliveiras”, Cardo Roxo, 2019), and the choral cycle “Pelo fio do linho” (project “Despiques”, Chamber Choir of S. João da Madeira, 2008). He also contributed as a composer to the choreographic project “Kinski” and the performance “Balle de las danças”, both produced by Portingaloise – Cultural and Artistic Association (2017 and 2021). Since 1996, he has taught at various specialized and professional music schools in Portugal, also serving in pedagogical coordination roles. He is currently a member of the faculty at the Artistic School of the Calouste Gulbenkian Music Conservatory, Aveiro, and collaborates as a guest assistant professor in the Composition Bachelor’s and Music Teaching Master’s programs at the School of Music and Performing Arts (Polytechnic of Porto).
