Along the Linen Thread (Pelo Fio do Linho) is a set of three choral pieces written and based on songs from the Cancioneiro de Arouca (Arouca songbook). Collected and compiled by Virgílio Pereira, in the mid-20th century, more than 500 songs that make up the Arouca songbook are a precious musical testimony of the way of life and the traditions of the communities in this Portuguese region, passed down orally through successive generations. These three pieces were composed between 2007 and 2008 as part of the Despiques project undertaken by the S. João da Madeira Chamber choir. They are therefore dedicated to this choir and to Magna Ferreira, who was its musical director at the time.[excerpt]
