Sara Ross (b.1989) was born on São Miguel Island, Azores. From 2007 to 2010 she attended the course of Digital Music Creation at Teesside University. While studying there, she received in 2009 the Honourable Mention for Best Portuguese Piece at the 10th Electroacoustic Music Competition by Miso Music, and in the same year was invited to attend the International Encounter/Festival Visiones Sonoras in Morelia, Mexico, with composers such as Alejandro Viñao, João Pedro Oliveira, amongst others. Having completed the course, she returned to São Miguel with the purpose of pursuing composition studies at the “Conservatório Regional de Ponta Delgada”. Currently in her final year in Music Composition at the “Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa”, she has had as principal tutors Luís Tinoco, Carlos Caires and António Pinho Vargas. In 2013 she was invited to participate in the Composition workshop organized in a partnership ESML-Gulbenkian Foundation, directed to the music writing for voice and chamber orchestra and under the tutorship of Marc-André Dalbavie. She has collaborated in dance projects with music arranging for 37.25 – Núcleo de Artes Perfomativas (2012), and composition for choreography work with students from “Escola Superior de Dança”.
