Francisco Tavares

Francisco Tavares (1987) was born in Coimbra (Portugal). He began his musical studies at the age of 13 at the Coimbra Conservatory.
He played in several music ensembles: (2006), Coimbra Youth Orchestra (2002 – 2006), chamber orchestra Tutti Ensemble (2007 – 2009), Conservatory’s Wind Orchestra (2003 – 2009); accompanying guitar Coimbra’s Fados with the group “Ars Nova” (2004 – 2009); at the project “Cafeína”, in the Pop/Rock/Bossa Nova music field (2005 – 2007).
He organized and participated in several events concerning Portuguese contemporary music: “Peças Frescas” music festival, as organization taskforce member and also as composer and performer (2010 – 2012); coordination of the cultural promoter “Há um Elefante na sala”, (pre. 2011); concert ”Young Composers” with the premiere of “Os pastores adoram o Menino”, by the choir “Ricercare” (2010); concert “Percussões da Metropolitana” (2011) with the premiere of “Profundis”.
He concluded the 3rd year of the Computer and Electrotechnical Engineering course, at the Coimbra University, and degreed in composition by the High School of Music in Lisbon (ESML), studying with Luís Tinoco, Carlos Caires and António Pinho Vargas, among others (2009 – 2012).
