Francisco Chaves

Francisco Chaves was born in Castro Verde, in 1993. He started playing the guitar at 11 years old with José Micael at the Conservatório Regional do Baixo Alentejo. Later, at the same school, he starts having composition classes with Roberto Perez.
Throughout his career, he attended several masterclasses with important musicians, among them: Margarita Escarpa, Michalis Kontaxakis, Pedro Rodrigues, António Jorge Gonçalves, Denis Azabagić, Carlo Marchione, Marco Socías (guitar), Luís Clemente (conducting), António Pinho Vargas, Péter Eötvös, Luca Francesconi and Balázs Horváth (composition). His pieces also received awards in several competitions. His composition for guitar “Doze A” received an honorable mention in the 3rd Composition Prize XXI century – Gustav Mahler. His composition “Sinfonieta em três andamentos” was awarded a prize in the competition “Jovens Compositores”, organized by “mpmp” and “Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa”.
Now, he is an undergraduate guitar and composition student at the University of Évora working under the guidance of the guitarist Dejan Ivanovich and the composers Christopher Bochmann and Pedro Amaral.
