Ms. da Ponte holds a PhD by the University of Birmingham (UK) and now lives in Oporto (Portugal) where she develops the activities of composition and teaching assistance at the Superior School of Performing Arts (ESMAE, Oporto).
Major works include the attendance at the 8th Workshop of the Gulbenkian’s Orchestra for Young Composers (2010), with the piece EKIS III conducted by Joana Carneiro. In 2011, Ângela composed for the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto (conducted by Michael Sanderling), Nuno Simões (winner of the Prémio Jovens Músicos 2010 – Percussion) and Remix Ensemble (conducted by Emílio Pomárico) as a result of being the Young Composer in Residence 2011 at Casa da Música (Oporto). In the same year, she received a commission to compose for the 2011’s Edition of the Prémio Jovens Músicos, for horn in F solo.
Further, in March 2014 she collaborated with the Orchestre National d’Île de France and Choeur Régional Vittoria d’Île de France, with a commission from ONDIF to write an orchestral accompaniment of Schubert’s work a cappella Psaume 92 D953. In March 2015 she was invited by the same orchestra to be member of the jury of the composition competition Île de Créations.
Ângela had the opportunity to let her electroacoustic works be recognized with BEAST (Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre) at the Ikon Gallery, CBSO and Elgar Concert Hall (Birmingham, UK). Her music was also presented in Mexico (Festival Visiones Sonoras, 2016), Poland (Audiokineza, 2016), Colombia (BLAST, 2016), Spain and regularly performed in Portugal.
