Carlos Garcia is graduated in Music Education and Piano (Jazz) by the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML). He studied under Luís Gomes (clarinet), Rui Paiva (organ), Eurico Carrapatoso (composition analysis and techniques) Pedro Moreira (big band), Lars Arens (arrangements), João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Antoine Hérve (jazz piano), Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, Ernst Shelle, Jean-Marc Burfin and Yibin Seow (orchestral conducting).
He taught Introduction to Music and Music Education at the Lisbon Conservatory during eight years. He currently works as assistant professor at ESML, in the Choir Conducting, Music Education and Music in the Community courses.
As freelancer pianist, he takes part in projects of several music styles and composes original music pieces regularly and arrangements for different kinds of groups. He worked with Luis Represas, João Gil, Ana Moura, Mafalda Arnauth, Vitorino and Janita Salomé, among others. He is currently a member of the “Portugoesas” trio, which pays tribute to traditional music from Goa.
As a composer, his sacred works “Missa Breve” and “Stabat Mater” can be highlighted, both for choir and string orchestra, and the Musical Theatre “A Rua”, with libretto by Carolina Gaspar.
In the scope of music for children, more than performing staged concerts for children regularly included in several projects, he released his “Cancioneiro da Bicharada”.
